Peaches like other temperate fruit crops require certain amount of chilling period below or at 7.2oC to break its dormancy. Low chilling cultivars require 200-300 hours of chilling and chilling hours of above 600 is much favoured by most of the other peach cultivars which produce quality fruits. Warm to hot summer is favourable for the development of quality peaches. In South Indian hills, it is grown from 1,300 to 2,200 m above MSL. Rainfall is desirable during summer season for good peach crop but high humidity is conductive to the attack of pests and diseases.
