Jammu, the city of temples,
is the winter capital of the state. Mostly, the pilgrims come
to Jammu for the darshan of holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi,
which is quite close by. Temple of Maha Kali or Bahu Mata,
the dargah of Peer Budhan Ali Shah, Raghunath Temple, Gauri
Kund Temple, Shudh Mahadev Temple, Shiva Temple, Peer Khoh
Cave Temple, Ranbireshwar Temple, and the Parmandal Temple
are the famous religious sites of the city.
Sheesh Mahal, the once royal
residence of the Dogra kings and Amar Mahal Palace and Museum,
a beautiful palace of red sandstone, which was once the residential
palace of Raja Amar Singh, are the two stunning monuments
of Jammu.
Patnitop, near the Vaishno
Devi Temple, is the fastest developing hill station and a
good place to enjoy nature at its best. Leh and Ladakh are
the abode of minority Buddhist community in the state. The
major points of attraction are the Leh Palace, Namgyal Tsemo
Gompa, Sankar Gompa, Shanti Stupa, and Soma Gompa.
