Maravanthe beach is one of the most picturesque locations in South Kannada. This beautiful beach is situated 9 km east of Kundapur, Karnataka. On the western side is the Arabian Sea, while on the eastern side runs the Saurpanika River. Like most beaches in this stretch Maravanthe beach also has white sand but the speciality of the Maravanthe Beach is its proximity to the highway NH17 which is just 20 to 30 feet away and runs parallel to the sea with the Sauparnika river on the other side. The Kodachari Hills form a backdrop to the Saurpanika River, making the scenery absolutely magnificent. Well known for the sunsets and sunrise, the beach is growing in popularity as a tourist destination.
There are many things one could do during a holiday in Maravanthe to make the tour to Maravanthe memorable. The scenic beach is naturally the main attraction in Maravanthe. You can spend hours sun-bathing and lazing on the sands. The beach is also well lit up at night and the street lights reflect in the waters, making an attractive display. The beach in essence is relatively empty and rocks are stacked up at the highway side to protect the highway during storms and high tides. A kilometre away is the well known Turtle Bay Resort, which offers accomodation in Maravanthe along with water sports, snorkelling and scuba diving trips in Maravanthe. Close by is also the Kanchugodu fishing village, which allows one to get closer to the local folk.
One can also go on a boat cruise on the Sowparnika river – take a dip in the medicinal river, explore the islands, cherish the view of the Kodachadri hills in the background and visit the temples on its banks. 45 km from Maravanthe is Baindur - a tiny village with a beautiful beach and scenic sunsets. Close by is Ottinane with a rocky overhanging cliff, known as Sunset Point. The Belaka Theertha Falls where the water falls off a cliff is further ahead is another destination that you could visit during your trip to Marvanthe.
