The Assan barrage is a wetland in the Uttarakhand-Himachal Pradesh border region in Doon Valley, (Dehradun District), northern India, situated at the confluence of the Yamuna Canal and the Assan River and about 11 kilometers from Dak Pathar, and 28 km. southwest of Dehradun.
The Assan River has been identified with the Asmanvati of the Rigveda.
Assan Barrage Bird Sanctuary
Spread over a small man-made wetland of approx. 4 sq km, the Assan Barrage Bird Sanctuary is known as an important bird sanctuary, attracting a large variety of water-fowl, while the adjacent Sal forest is home to many woodland and scrubland bird species, and about 11 migratory species, namely Brahminy Duck, Pintail, Red Crested Pochard, Gadwall, Common Pochard, Mallard, Coot, Wigeon, Common Teal, Tufted Duck, Shoveller, show up during winter months.
Also Assan Water Sports Resort is also being developed by Garhwal Tourism, this includes Water Sking, Rowing, Paddle Boating, Kayaking, Double Water Skiing, Mono-Skiing and Motor Boating. |
